Kvaerner’s Condeep design for gravity base structures (GBS) is the world’s most widely used solution for offshore oil & gas platforms based on concrete substructures. The GBS’s are installed on the seabed and are typically designed with ballast cells in the bottom part of the structure, enabling it to be horizontally and vertically moved and towed to site. This also permits float-over installation of topsides.

At remote locations, nearby pipeline connections are not always available. The cells in the lower part of the concrete structure can function as temporary oil storage where the oil can then be offloaded to shuttle tankers at regular intervals.

The solution has proven to be reliable, cost effective and provide the versatility needed to meet the challenges of each specific project.

With a large portion of the yet not produced oil and gas resources located in arctic regions, there are several plans for onshore or near-shore processing plants under consideration. In many cases, it is complicated and ineffective to construct onshore facilities at new sites which are remote from any infrastructure.

Kvaerner has developed its own Arctic LNG concepts based on modularised process facilities located on concrete barges. The bulk part of a new facility can be constructed at an efficient fabrication site, and the barges with process equipment can then be towed to the site for the new process facility, embedded at shore where it is connected to form a complete plant.

Traditionally, offshore platforms generate their own electricity by burning fossil fuels to run onboard gas turbines and/or diesel-powered generating units, resulting in local pollution to the environment. As we move operations into the environmentally sensitive arctic regions, it's importan to lower our emissions.

ABB's solution is to supply offshore installations with electricity from the mainland using a power cable transmission system. By replacing costly onboard electrical generating systems burning natural gas or diesel fuel, a power-from-shore solution can eliminate platform CO2 emissions entirely. It also increases available space and reduces weight on the platform, and improves the working environment. In addition, cable systems are easier to maintain than generators.

Moss Maritime has designed several drilling rigs capable of operation in mild ice conditions. Two CS50 Arctic units were delivered to Gazflot intended for drilling wells in the Shtokman area. The ice capabilites of the rigs were tested with ice model tests.
Further, the rig "West Alpha" was used in the summer season to drill in the Kara Sea. Evaluations included nonlinear ice-structure interaction to document the capability of the rig to sustain minor ice impact loads.
Moss Maritime has also been a preferred contractor for both Shell and Exxon Mobil when assing novel concepts capable of operation in ice conditions.

The Thermtech Cuttings Cleaner (TCC®) is a thermal technology developed by Thermtech to treat drill cuttings. In the TCC® the drilling waste is separated into three main components, mineral solids, base oil and water. The highly valuable drilling fluids are under influence of high temperature only for a few seconds, resulting in a very high quality of the recovered fluids which can be re-used in new drilling mud, while the mineral solids can be discharged to sea meeting the toughest discharge limits. With appropriate weather protection, the TCC® can be operated in harsh environments.

The TCC® is the only thermal desorption technology currently approved for use offshore.

The oil and gas industry is dependent on processes that produce waste water/slop. Given the nature of the discharge limits offshore, a high percentage of the generated waste water/slop must be transported to shore for treatment.

Soiltech offers technology that treats the generated waste water/slop on location that allow for discharge to sea, and thus removes the need for transportation to shore for treatment. This is very beneficial for operators offshore, especially in remote locations such as the arctic, as the time and cost for transportation to shore is removed. KSAT offers an oil spill detection service based on Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite imagery. SAR is a well-suited sensor for oil spill detection due to its ability to see very thin oil films on the sea surface even in darkness and cloudy weather.

The service provides regular or emergency monitoring for oil slicks on the sea surface. The oil spill detection service can be combined with sea ice detection and monitoring.

KSAT has licenses and equipment to task, downlink and process SAR imagery from all the relevant commercial SAR satellites in orbit. In addition, KSAT owns and operates the world’s largest commercial ground station at the island of Svalbard (SvalSAT). Hence, global analysed imagery can be accessed and delivered extremely fast.

AKOFS operates 2 specialized Subsea Equipment Support Vessels (SESV). The units are specially designed for deepwater subsea equipment installation, intervention and recovery. One of the obvious problems posed by working in deep water is that the equipment is inaccessible and often in remote and harsh environments.

Direct electrical heating (DEH) system prevents the formation of hydrate and wax in flowlines and pipelines, without the use of chemicals. DeepSeaMaster is a flowmeter used on the sea bed to inject additives or to measure product, often at depths of many hundreds of meters. Construction materials are a critical factor in subsea applications, as resistance to severe erosion and corrosion is essential. DeepSeaMaster can be fabricated from a wide range of alternative materials, although Duplex and Super Duplex are most common.

Omnirise is a fully electric pumping system for singlephase (water, seawater, oil, condensate, chemicals) or multi-phase (wellstream) fluids. Traditional pump solutions with a central pump room mean wasted space, added risk and higher operational costs. Framo pumps are different. Submerged in simple sidemounted caissons, our pumps eliminate both hull penetrations and the need for a massive internal pump room and extensive piping.

Powered with the unique electric Framo cable-free concept, submersible pumps also ensure increased uptime. This is thanks to a short, stiff rotating shaft that avoids excessive wear and tear. The total result is an oil and gas pumping solution that reduces risk while saving both space and money.

The finished pumping system is insulated, cooled and lubricated by a small external oil circulation unit, preventing any ingress, enabling it to operate continuously in the toughest conditions.

FRAMO electric fire water pumping systems are the preferred solution when higher pumping capacities are needed, or when the generator package is located too far from the fire water pump. In our solution, the diesel generator supplies power to a cable-free electric submersible pump.

The generator package is a complete containerized unit. It includes a fuel tank, starting system and ancillaries, installed on a single skid in accordance with NFPA20 and industry standards for fire water systems. Having all components in a single, fire-rated enclosure offers technical advantages that lead to savings. Optimized in size and weight, the module is simple to install on deck and designed for ease of maintenance and continuous operation in remote locations and tough conditions, such as the arctic.

Framo hydraulic fire water pumping systems, with single-stage pumps that rotate slowly during standby, offer a minimal start load and the best possible preparedness. The system use a submerged hydraulically driven pump. This pump lifts the water to deck level, where it feeds into a pump that is directly driven by the diesel engine. Consequently, the diesel engine’s start load is kept to a minimum.

The lift pump runs continuously at low speedin standby mode, driven by a flow of low-pressure hydraulic fluid circulated by a small electrically driven pump. This ensures continuous availability and lubrication/heating of the fire water lift pump and preventing marine growth in the pump. In harsh environments far from land, such as operations in the arctic, pump reliability is top priority.

FRAMO Water Injection Pumping Systems are the reliable way to increase reservoir pressure. The high-power stages are arranged back-to-back for balanced thrust forces, and the high-speed shaft operates well below first critical speed. The system is designed for minimal wear and tear and easy maintenance, even when working with produced water. The system have shown more than 98% average availability in over 4,000,000 operating hours logged, making it reliable and suitable for use in remote locations.

The FRAMO Water Injection Pumping Systems is value adding by having less than half the footprint of a BB pump. Because a booster pump is integrated into the main injection pump, we eliminate the need for a separate pump with associated piping, valves and manifolds.

AKOFS offers advanced offshore construction services with our Multi-Purpose Construction Vessels (MPCV). The size and transit speed of our vessels along with DP3 and IMO MODU code classification makes for a secure and flexible working platform with a large operational window for subsea well intervention, installation and construction work in rough weather conditions around the world, including the barents sea.

The UPTIME AMC gangway facilitates transit from a floating vessel to a fixed or floating installation. The crew is protected from the elements and risks by using smaller crew transfer vessels are removed.

The gangway systems have environmental protection for the crew, heating of oil and machinery and operators, lights to operate in constant dusk or dark and camera systems for off-site supervision and control.

By using weatherproof gangways, crew can transit with little risk and effort from support vessel to an installation. The support vessel does not have to use smaller skiffs that are prone to icing, navigation challenges and less protection against the environment.

KSAT provides Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and optical satellite imagery for ice detection and monitoring. SAR is a well-suited sensor for sea ice monitoring due to its ability to image the sea surface through darkness and clouds. SAR imagery can cover huge areas (up to 500x500 km), and due to the polar orbits of the SAR satellites, potential image acquisition frequency increases with latitude.

KSAT has licenses and equipment to task, downlink and process SAR imagery from all the relevant commercial SAR satellites in orbit. In addition, KSAT owns and operates the world’s largest commercial ground station at the island of Svalbard (SvalSAT) and the TrollSAT ground station in Antarctica. By downlinking imagery to these stations, global imagery can be accessed and delivered extremely fast.
