Power from shore
30.10.2017 - ABB
Traditionally, offshore platforms generate their own electricity by burning fossil fuels to run onboard gas turbines and/or diesel-powered generating units, resulting in local pollution to the environment. As we move operations into the environmentally sensitive arctic regions, it's important to lower our emissions.
ABB's solution is to supply offshore installations with electricity from the mainland using a power cable transmission system. By replacing costly onboard electrical generating systems burning natural gas or diesel fuel, a power-from-shore solution can eliminate platform CO2 emissions entirely. It also increases available space and reduces weight on the platform, and improves the working environment. In addition, cable systems are easier to maintain than generators.

The modular design of the CTS enables easy installation on most rig types. It is designed to run for long periods without maintenance and be able to pump large particles without blockages occurring.
CTS benefits:
• Cost savings by removing the need for a supply vessel
• Keeping templates cutting-free
• Saving time when laying pipes and tying in umbilicals
• Suitable in environmentally sensitive areas as little or no footprint is created on the seabed
Slop treatment technology
21.08.2018 - Soiltech
The oil and gas industry is dependent on processes that produce waste water/slop. Given the nature of the discharge limits offshore, a high percentage of the generated waste water/slop must be transported to shore for treatment.
Soiltech offers technology that treats the generated waste water/slop on location that allow for discharge to sea, and thus removes the need for transportation to shore for treatment. This is very beneficial for operators offshore, especially in remote locations such as the Arctic, as the time and cost for transportation to shore is removed. The technology is a mechanical process where no chemicals are being used. It is proven and already in use on existing operations in the Barents Sea.

ELF OWL™
29.11.2018 - Ocean Visuals
Ocean Visuals has developed integrated solutions for real-time detection of oil spills in marine environment. ELF OWL™ is an extremely small HLIF LiDAR made to fit on an RPAS with a size of only 25x30x37 cm, weighing 22 kg and with measurement range of 100-150 meter. The detector is weatherized to withstand harsh weather such as extreme cold and is well suited for arctic conditions.
ELF OWL™ is capable of detecting submerged oil in the water column. As oil is intrinsically fluorescent and emits light in blue-green spectral range when illuminated by UV light, the oil is easily distinguished from other substances in the water. ELF OWL™ can “fingerprint” the sample and thus receive an accurate identification of oil category and type (crude oil, hydraulic oil etc.) in real-time in flight.
SUPER OWL™
29.11.2018 - Ocean Visuals
Ocean Visuals has developed integrated solutions for real-time detection of oil spills in marine environment. SUPER OWL™ is a HLIF LiDAR, with a sector scanning system made to be easily bolted onto a railing or drilling tower, weighing only app. 60 kg and with measurement range of 200-500 meter. The detector is weatherized to withstand harsh weather such as extreme cold and is well suited for arctic conditions.
Using the hyperspectral curve of the emitted light, we can “fingerprint” the sample and thus receive an accurate identification of oil category and type (crude oil, hydraulic oil etc.) in real-time on the spot.
The data is visualized on OWL™ FIELD, a special field-based graphic user interface in real-time and is available on web and iOS platforms and as desktop applications.
SEA OWL™
08.11.2017 - Ocean Visuals
SEA OWL™ (Oil in Water Locator) is the world's smallest HLIF LiDAR. It can "fingerprint" oil and thus receive a real-time identification of oil category and type (crude oil, hydraulic oil etc.) on the spot, with no samples or lab analysis required. It can be used for optimization of cleanup processes, post cleaning control and dispersant efficiency control.
The detector is weatherized to withstand harsh weather such as extreme cold and is well suited for arctic conditions. The system is fully autonomous and provides real-time information, day and night, about oil in water. The system reacts specifically to oil molecules and is immune to weather induced false alarms.
NorLense containment booms are temporary floating barriers used to contain an oil spill. Our offshore booms are made to meet rough weather conditions on open sea. The construction of the boom with no longitudinal stiff elements provide extreme wave conformity and the best results possible when it comes to stopping and holding spilled oil.
Rapid mobilization and recovery with a minimum of personnel is essential when operating in arctic areas, where the weather conditions can change in minutes. With our system, one person can deploy 400 m of the worlds largest offshore oil boom within 20 minutes.
NorLense original oil containment boom with automatic inflation ensure safe working conditions for your personnel. In the NOFO Oil-On-Water tests, over 90% of the spilled oil was recovered.

The SSTC systems are designed for vertical XT`s, eliminating the need for XT handling cap, XT running tool, tree cap running and retrieval tool. The XT will have an easy access connection (2 - 7) for well stimulation with access directly into tubing to maximise the result with maximum turbulent flow. The barrier elements is PSV + FSC valve in the cap. During the stimulation the top connection has surface controlled EQD, PSD, ESD function according to NORSOK and ISO Standard and the operation can be performed from DP class 2 and up. During EQD there will be no spill, and the well will be shut in with two barriers in place.
Subsea Smart Solutions supply subsea HPU units to control x-mas trees in production mode, for workover operations, and for intervention operations. For electric x-mas trees the MEG SHPU can operate down hole safety valves using MEG as control fluid. The MEG SHPU can also operate using a closed reservoir with water based oil as control fluid, with the possibility to fill from vessel if required. The solutions can be shipped, stored and installed in arctic climate as well as the rest of the world.
Added value: less high-pressure equipment at surface, cost-efficient (no need for hydraulic lines in umbilical), reduces the likelihood of oil spill, eliminates the top side HPU for WBM, less manual handling during installation, and overall a huge cost and risk reducing measure for the project.
Subsea Smart Solutions supply subsea HPU units to control x-mas trees in production mode, for workover operations, and for intervention operations. Our Contingency SHPU will get the wells back in production within weeks, instead of waiting for a new replacement umbilical that normally takes between 2-3 years from the day the umbilical fails until the wells are back in production.
The Contingency SHPU will fit all x-mas trees independent of supplier and control system. It is prepared for low pressure and high pressure (chemical is optional). One unit can operate several x-mas trees or manifolds. The Contingency SHPU is ready to be mobilized from Stavanger Norway ASAP in case the need is there, and can be stored, shipped and installed in arctic climate.

SPO Compact Flanges is the basis for ISO 27509, but extends beyond this standard up to 20 000 psi pressure class and flanges types such as swivel ring flanges, blind flanges and additional components such as high integrity seal rings. These compact flanges have been used in the North Sea and subsea projects worldwide in subsea processing structures like subsea pump systems for more than 10 years.
INSUBSEA® Direct Electrical Heating (DEH) system
13.11.2017 - ABB
One of the obvious problems posed by working in deep waters, and often in remote and harsh environments, is that the equipment is inaccessible. ClampOn Subsea Particle Monitor
30.01.2018 - ClampOn
The ClampOn Particle Monitor monitors sand through passive ultrasonic technology. It detects the ultrasonic signal that is generated by particles impacting the inside of the pipe wall, just after the bend where the sensor is installed. The instrument has onboard Digital Signal Processing (DSP) for analysing of the collected data and sends real-time results to control system, giving the operator immediate warning if sand is being produced.
It is designed for depths to 3000 meters and have full redundancy, for high reliability through seasons with reduced access.
Operators are using particle monitors widely to increase production rate by finding a maximum sand free rate. By monitoring and evaluating the data in real-time, the operator can make immediate decisions to ensure safe production.
The Seabox™ subsea water treatment module is installed on the seafloor, designed to treat 40 000 bpd of sea water for injection, directly into subsea wells or via topside. The Seabox™ module disinfects water and removes all solids down to 10 μm using electrolysis and long residence time. Subsea water treatment ensures operators’ flexibility to adjust capacity needs as well as implement water injection on fields otherwise found too expensive.
For arctic conditions, the Seabox™ module will mean a reduction in chemicals used, lower energy demand and reduced need for offshore manning. It is not obstructed by topside weight and space or distance to injection wells. The Seabox™ will accelerate production and increase recovery through flexibility and a more active reservoir management.
The SWIT™ subsea water treatment and intake technology, with the Seabox™ module as its cornerstone, utilizes filtration and membrane technology to tailor raw seawater to reservoir requirements – particle-free, low salinity or low sulfate water. The SWIT™ technology reduces the need for maintenance without compromising performance, all done subsea. Removing filtration and membrane equipment from topside facility reduces topside infrastructure and offshore manning. There is a significant reduction in CAPEX and OPEX, but still greater availability is achieved through the SWIT™ water treatment technology.
For arctic climate this solution provides a more environmental friendly approach to water treatment, due to decreased use of chemicals, power consumption and need for topside infrastructure.

FRAMO seawater lift pumps
02.02.2018 - Framo
Traditional pump solutions with a central pump room mean wasted space, added risk and higher operational costs. Framo pumps are different. Submerged in simple sidemounted caissons, our pumps eliminate both hull penetrations and the need for a massive internal pump room and extensive piping.
Powered with the unique electric Framo cable-free concept, submersible pumps also ensure increased uptime. This is thanks to a short, stiff rotating shaft that avoids excessive wear and tear. The total result is an oil and gas pumping solution that reduces risk while saving both space and money.
The finished pumping system is insulated, cooled and lubricated by a small external oil circulation unit, preventing any ingress, enabling it to operate continuously in the toughest conditions.
FRAMO electric firewater pumps
02.02.2018 - Framo
FRAMO electric fire water pumping systems are the preferred solution when higher pumping capacities are needed, or when the generator package is located too far from the fire water pump. In our solution, the diesel generator supplies power to a cable-free electric submersible pump.
The generator package is a complete containerized unit. It includes a fuel tank, starting system and ancillaries, installed on a single skid in accordance with NFPA20 and industry standards for fire water systems. Having all components in a single, fire-rated enclosure offers technical advantages that lead to savings. Optimized in size and weight, the module is simple to install on deck and designed for ease of maintenance and continuous operation in remote locations and tough conditions, such as the Arctic.
FRAMO hydraulic firewater pumps
02.02.2018 - Framo
Framo hydraulic fire water pumping systems, with single-stage pumps that rotate slowly during standby, offer a minimal start load and the best possible preparedness. The system uses a submerged hydraulically driven pump. This pump lifts the water to deck level, where it feeds into a pump that is directly driven by the diesel engine. Consequently, the diesel engine’s start load is kept to a minimum.
The lift pump runs continuously at low speed in standby mode, driven by a flow of low-pressure hydraulic fluid circulated by a small electrically driven pump. This ensures continuous availability and lubrication/heating of the fire water lift pump, preventing marine growth in the pump. In harsh environments far from land, such as operations in the Arctic, pump reliability is top priority.
FRAMO water injection pumps
02.02.2018 - Framo
FRAMO water injection pumping systems are the reliable way to increase reservoir pressure. The high-power stages are arranged back-to-back for balanced thrust forces, and the high-speed shaft operates well below first critical speed. The system is designed for minimal wear and tear and easy maintenance, even when working with produced water. The system has shown more than 98% average availability in over 4,000,000 operating hours logged, making it reliable and suitable for use in remote locations.
The FRAMO water injection pumping systems is value-adding by having less than half the footprint of a BB pump. Because a booster pump is integrated into the main injection pump, we eliminate the need for a separate pump with associated piping, valves and manifolds.
